Training people

Now I have to try to train the guy who is taking over from me! He happens to be a good friend of mine so the pressure is on to do a good job!

Sorry

I was off sick on Friday (nothing serious). Feeling tired but better today. Simon abandoned me for the weekend so i was home alone! No bad thing- caught up on some stuff around the house and had some friends over to visit me which was lovely. Am still having job indecisivenesses though which is adding to my stresses in life!
Has anyone started their christmas shopping yet? I am feeling rather behind in that i havent really done any yet! Oh dear....

Old Friends

Isnt it lovely when you meet up with someone you havent seen for ages and the insults start flying almost immediately?! You know you feel totally comfortable with the person and can just enjoy the time together rather than feeling awkward for the first part of the evening! Went out in Clapham with Simon and an old friend last night and it was really lovely. Means getting up this mornign was rahter difficult but there we have it!

Today

is going to be a better day. A much better day. I am determined that it will be so.

So there!

Got home last night to find Simon and his dad busy putting up blinds and pictures that have needed attention since we finished decorating the lounge. They all look wonderful and i am very grateful to them both for doing it! S is working v hard at the moment on all sorts of things. He is just wonderful. I am v lucky to be married to him.

One of those days

Things that have gone wrong so far today:

1. Slept badly in middle of night then fast asleep when alarm went off.
2. Arrive at London Bridge to discover have lost train pass (worth £1400) and tube pass (worth (£80)).
3. Jubilee line totally up the spout so have to struggle in and it takes 3 times as long as usual...
4. Boss in bad mood o/a bad jubilee line
5. Lost the keys to my work drawer containing all my work!

There are, however, still lots of things to be thankful for and it is these I am trying to dwell on so I am not the colleague from hell all day... (i have already had to apologise to someone for being too aggressive- she does wind me up and I just lost it with her which isnt v professional, no matter how crap and arrogant she is!)

Additionals

1. I had a meeting with the biggest idiot on the face of the planet (from our side not theirs). This is extremely embarrassing.

but

2. Someone emailed me to say they had found my train pass and did I want to get it back? How wonderful! Praise the Lord!

Weekend away

Just spent the weekend with my walton friends in this amazing house in sussex. It was so well equipped and we really loved it! The weather was a bit rubbish but we didnt mind too much. People now have children so it was lovely for them to have a big house to run around in and be happy! We could eat and eat and relax and have fun playing silly games. It was excellent... Also managed to see some of SImon's friends and have time to do stuff around the house so a top weekend all round i would say !

Decision Time

I think I have decided not to accept either of the new jobs! For reasons which I wont go into now but they mainly relate to a mercenary discussion of money, pensions, hours I will need to work and holiday! I realise how well off I am at the moment! It is nice to realise these things, even if it is late in the day. Anyone else realise how lucky they have been without knowing it?
Away for the weekend with my Walton friends so looking forward to that. The weather seems to have cheered up since the horriblest day on record yesterday...

Working from home

is a wonderful thing. I got lots done and didnt even have to go out of the house! Admittedly I didnt do as much housework as last week when i was working from home- I was busy actually working- but it was lovely to just be there all day! But I am now running out of proper, home-baked food in the freezer though so i'll need to do some more cooking before i can work from home again! Though not sure what my next job will be and whether i'll be able to work from home with it or not! Will be weird to be leaving this place. I'm looking for some guidance and direction at this point though as I will be taking longer to decide than those offering me the jobs did!

Staying at my friend Alex's tonight. Havent seen her in ages so cant wait.

So

What can I say? So much is going on at the moment and so little to be able to blog about! Oh OK- I give in. I have been offered two other jobs. But I dont think I am going to take them for various reasons- most likely to stay where I am I think. All difficult and ends up coming down to a mercenary decision based on money. I never thought a) I would actually be better off in the public than the private sector and b) I would be basing my decision about work on money! But there we go. We have a new house and a new car and we need to get stuff done and fresh air isnt going to pay those bills!
but it was nice to be wanted...

Lovely Weekend

The weather was totally perfect Autumn weather- clear blue skies, lots of sunshine and cold, crisp temperature. We went away with some good friends to celebrate another 30th! It was totally fantastic. We walked on the beach and played football and chatted and had long, leisurely meals and generally chilled. It felt as if we were on holiday! And we managed to avoid the traffic coming home too (despite overturned lorry closing a junction of M25!). I love living where we do- dont need to go on a motorway to reach so many places!

Arrogant colleagues

I am not sure I have ever worked with really arrogant people before but there are two new people on our team and they are driving me crazy! When I am new I dont presume I know more than the people who have been there for ages and I certainly wouldnt decline their help and advice on the grounds that I knew better! One person feels when in meetings with external bodies that they will be interested in hearing her entire (and boring, not v impressive CV) -actually all they want is the name and the person she is replacing! The other has never done this type of work before and simply refuses to accept that he isnt doing it anything like properly yet because we are all carrying his weight for him! Yesterday he announced that our jobs are merely procedural and that he couldnt have found an easier one! HOw to wind up your new team no end ! I admit I am probably far less tolerant of these people than I should be but I do hate arrogance and selfishness more than most things in life and when two people combine both I do struggle to be bothered to even talk to them !

My godson is 10 today! 10! That is just ridiculous. Where have the last 10 years gone? He'll be leaving home and all sorts before I even blink ! What our parents used to say to us is just so true- we do grow up just so quickly!

I have to say that I really enjoyed the company of my godson and his 5 year old sister last night. They are turning into really lovely people. We had fireworks to celebrate Joseph's birthday. Some were louder than others- one just disappeared and then banged so loudly three times that I was sure the police would turn up thinking there had been a mass murder of the whole street. Anyway good to see my Mum and cousins and aunt and uncle too. One doesnt do these family things often enough...

Looking forward to our weekend away in Camber Sands this weekend. The forecast is cold but sunny and clear so it should be great- with some of our best friends. So all round I cant wait!

Tired

As a result of doing too much I am v tired again! My policy of going to bed early evaporated when I started going out during the week and needing some 'chill' time after getting home on the sofa with a book or paper. So it will be re-instated sometime soon! I need to get on with some work properly today or I'll be leaving my friend in something stinky when he takes on my job in a few weeks' time. Yes, the two year secondment is all but at an end now! It seems so hard to take in- doesnt time fly. Although when I think that I wasnt even engaged when I started here I guess that makes me realise it has been a long-ish time after all.
Anyone else think they shouldnt have bothered changing the clocks back? It is getting dark so early already it is terribly depressing!

Cant really say

but lots is happening in my life at the moment (no i'm not pregnant!). will say more when i feel i can... but my weekend was taken up and perhaps not as relaxing as it could have been ! Simon was v happy doing DIY though which was nice to see. He is probably the noisiest DIY-er in the history of the world but as long as he is creating lots of good things then I dont mind too much!

I have to point you to this post. The person who wrote it went to primary school with me and it totally sums up how I feel about the US election brilliantly.

Had a really tough Governor's meeting this morning. Possibly the hardest decision I have ever had to make. But I think we made the right one...

An exciting weekend ahead (not). But at least we'll be at home together and not rushing around the country as normal!

Something strange

Seems to have happened to blogger today. Anyone else noticed it?

Went back to my home town last night to see a good friend of mine. They are off to NZ for Christmas/ New Year and I am v envious of them! Just catching up with them was lovely- and driving the new car was quite good fun too! I need to be careful though as it goes very fast very easily and was rather surprised by a beeping thing Simon had put on it so it goes off if you hit a certain speed (88mph actually). Much too fast I know - it wasnt deliberate! I dont like going much above 80 so this will help. The M25 was surprisingly empty which was lovely ! Not much other news really to be honest...

Grumpy

I am not sure if it is the lack of sleep last night (went out with my sister-in-law to see the new Bridget Jones film!) or the imminent BAD US election result or too busy at work or too busy out of work or the lack of alcohol but I am in a v bad mood today! I have warned all my colleagues and I feel bad but for some reason I seem to have gotten out of bed the wrong side! I will try to be nice, dont worry. I have a training course (3 hours) and a 4 hr meeting today too so it is all really quite a nightmare. Maybe all will be well after work today? Who knows!

Come on America

I am sure you can do it- make the right decision for the good of the whole world! I absolutely hate to admit that the US has influence over the world 'stage' but it clearly does. So get with the programme and dont make the same mistake as last time. PLEASE! (Oh yes I have remembered that you didnt make the mistake last time. Dont even make it close enough to let the corrupt people manage to take advantage like they did last time.....)

Blogging

is getting lots of attention in the press isnt it? I feel quite cool to have had a blog a long time before it became trendy or popular ! It wasnt my idea of course but that doesnt stop me being ahead of the times!

We collected our new car on saturday. I was a bit nervous about driving it but have overcome that now and am really quite enjoying it- I like it a lot more than I did. And S is delighted with himself about it. We showed it off to our families so noone else need be bored silly with us raving about the car!

I saw a neighbour to my parents on saturday - I hadnt seen her for about 5 years at least. She is roughly my age and had just come back from a year travelling. For those of you that dont know about my obsession with New Zealand then you just need to get to know me better! But suffice to say I love it- could easily live there- and Simon hasnt ever been and is v aware that he needs to go to make me happy! But I asked this girl which was her favourite part of her proper round the world tour (she went to places even I have never heard of!) and she said that it was - of course- New Zealand. I defy anyone who has been there to say that they cant understand why she said that.... Simon just rolled his eyes at yet another person raving about it! Two other good friends of mine went there in September as I have been banging on about it since 1997. They were convinced they would prefer Australia (which they have been to a couple of times) but since visiting the South Island they are now planning to go to the North Island next year! They loved it and cant imagine why anyone would choose Aussie over NZ! Of course- speaks for itself.... Now i just have to figure out when Simon and I are going to go back there... Havent been since 2002 so probs due a visit!
