Wasnt the bank holiday weekend (in the UK!) amazingly sunny? I sat out in our garden for at least two of the afternoons in a t-shirt basking in the sunshine! Yesterday afternoon I was chatting to my mother-in-law whilst our husbands tiled the kitched! Boy does it look good. It still needs more to be done but it looks amazing- we had walls with no tiles on for 3 of the 6 months we have lived in the house and i had kind of gotten used to it. But it looks fantastic now- real stone mosaic tiles (walnut colour apparently). Contrasts well with our granite worktops and maple (real solid wood no less!) kitchen cupboards etc. Happy girl i am
I went swimming on my day off last thursday, saturday and monday! and we went for a walk on sunday so i have done my fair share of exercise over the weekend!
I wont admit that despite informing both sets of parents (who had forgotten) about the clocks changing this weekend we forgot to adjust our own! and therefore missed church on easter sunday. this was incredibly upsetting and disappointing. I had put on my posh outfit and everything. the worst thing is that last time the clocks changed on easter weekend (2002 i think) we both did exactly the same!
Anyway a 4-day week at work which cant be too bad I suppose (esp as I am working from home on thurs o/a midwife appointment).
baby moves around an awful lot now. to the extent that i get worried if i dont feel it for a while. i feel v big and know everyone has no doubts that i am pregnant at all now but still know i have a LONG way to go!

It has indeed been good. I managed to persuade Simon not to do any DIY today. We went to church (v moving service- alas just adults so we wont both be able to go in future) and then a walk around Oxted with people from all the churches in the area- v cool. THen into London where we saw the National Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. We are very late in going this year. It was busy but really good fun. Lovely weather and a wonderful day. Now the preparations for the tiling tomorrow are beginning (cant stop Simon totally when he is on a mission!).
Am going to try to go swimming again tomorrow!
Still havent received something i won on ebay a week ago. STarting to get a bit nervous!
I have had a 'flexi day' off today. And very nice it was too. It started with a long swim- observing the baby swimming classes at my local pool which i hope to get involved in at some point! Then a supermarket shop. Boy was it busy. BUt I had my list and was v efficient so that made me feel that I had been productive on my day off. Then sat on the car park that was the M25 to go to where i grew up to see a friend for lunch. She had a baby in December so you can imagine what much of the talk was about. Very interesting. She also uses towelling nappies (but uses a laundry service so didnt have much advice for me!). Her baby girl is called Lara and is gorgeous. And I managed to get her to stop crying not once but twice and got her off to sleep! how wonderful did I feel? Then went to a maternity shop called 'blooming marvellous'. and believe me it is. i have been after a swimming costume and a skirt for ages and the selection in there was fantastic- i had to restrain myself from buying much more than i needed/ could justify. which was nice- most of the mat stuff i have seen recently has been minging. sat on the car park again on way home and then simon and i went back out to get the tiles for our kitchen. that is the project for the weekend (well not good friday and easter sunday but the other two days). they are stone and lovely. am supposed to be ironing now but am too tired. swimming seems to make my back ache lots. what else? just went onto ebay to check out the baby monitors i have had my eye on and an auction was ending in 1 minute's time! so i made my bid and won! so that is 3 auctions i have won in a month. i think i had better not go on again. it really is v addictive. i think i have now got everything from it that we want though so there shouldnt be a real need to go on again.... (until i think of more i suppose!). it is the trill of the chase that makes shopping so much more interesting than it normally would be to someone that hates shopping!
Lots of comments on the size of my bump now. and getting stared at quite a lot when out in public (tho much less so when with mum and baby!!).
I saw Nikki last night (old flatmate) who had a baby (boy- Alex) in September last year and she was giving me lots of tips too.
Anyone got views on a baby seat/bath/bucket for bathing a baby? have had all three recommended/ not recommended so am suitably confused as normal!
I blogged at least twice more last week but neither post seems to have appeared. How annoying!
What wonderful weather at teh weekend. I did a 5 mile walk around Virginia Water lake for those of you that know it with my friend Debbie. I had stayed over with her on Friday night and we had had a lovely time just the two of us. It is necessary to spend a bit more than just an evening with close friends every now and then.
We also went to an NCT sale. For the unitiated (which I was)- it was a cross between a next sale (you had to get there v early to get a chance of any of the real bargains- i thought turning up at the time the sale started was early but clearly not!) and a jumble sale. Some of the stuff was fantastic quality but some was total rubbish. I might go to another- we'll see- but you clearly need a strategy to ensure you get what you are looking for! a general 'let's see what there is' just is not good enough!
Also had church, a swim, a clean of the house, our house group, helped simon with a job application form and had time to go to the pub a couple of times! it made the weekend seem really long!
I am in maternity clothes for the first time today. My trousers keep on falling down though (and i am told this wont get better as my bump gets bigger which is what i was hoping for!). I didnt put a mat top on though and I really should have- this is now too short!
Got fitted up for mat bras at M&S on friday. Far too depressing for words! And that isnt going to get any better either!
People are now staring at me. They really just stare. It is quite unbelievable. Debbie said she had spotted people staring too! I'm not that interestign or even that big at the moment! Gets worse I think! (Do I mind- I think i did at first but it is quite nice really!)
And london underground is producing these badges saying 'baby on board' for pregnant women to wear so people dont feel embarrassed asking if you would like a seat- that is she/ isnt she pregnant thing will be taken away! i have applied for one! i must just add though that i wotn have one of those on my car under any circumstances- this is just a ploy to get a seat when travelling to / from work!
Had another successful auction on ebay at the weekend. this is going much bettter now. i think i have worked out how to do it!
I managed to win an ebay auction! and it involved retracting my bid as the system did it wrong (honestly it did - it took my maximum bid and posted it quite unnecessarily as the current bid thus revealing my hand to the world!). Wasnt on anything baby related but it gave us the taste of watching the auction right to the end to ensure we win! Pretty chuffed as you can imagine!
Coming back to work a bit of a shock, especially as I have a school governor's meeting straight afterwards. And I start my pregnancy yoga classes tomorrow and see another friend on wed night so it is a bit of a busy week all round.
Simon was rather ill on sat night- he says it was a reaction tot he egg he ate at dinner i say it was ar eaction to the alcohol (although to be fair he didnt drink veyr much at all but his Chinese gene does rather mess him up when it comes to drink on occasions). It cant have been that there was anything wrong witht he meal as 5 other people had it (gorgeous fish pie which i must learn how to make) and were completely fine!
We are now sleeping in our newly decorated spare room (one of them anyway!) so we can do our room. On top of tiling hte kitchen and doing hte bathrooms and hall, landing and stairs we have our work cut out. Or rather Simon does! Good on him though.
HAve pulled out of EAster walking weekend in Devon as Ir ealised when walking in WALes last week that although I can walk long distances the speed I can go at is rather different from that of other people and I'd end up walking on my own anyway ! So Simon and I , having had plans since September or so, need to fill our weekend! Am sure the DIY mentioned above might just get a look in!
Thanks for being patient! We had a lovely week away. We walked in north wales, read lots (anyone who hasnt read the time traveller;s wife really must- it is excellent!) and had lots of sleep. Fantastic. It is a shame that these holidays have to come to an end. I also met up with Lisa (whose blog I have forgotten how to link to but will do soon!) who gave Simon and me lots of v helpful baby tips-thanks Lisa! We are learning all the time... Journey home wasnt too horrendous although driving from the north of england to the south is never the most pleasant way to spend an afternoon!
This weekend is back to the DIY for Simon and curtain shopping for me with my Mum- looking forward to that! Also sorting and all the domestic stuff that hasnt happened for a week!
seem to be getting the better of me. i am bursting into tears uncontrollably at the smallest thing on an almost daily basis at the moment. What is that all about? Certainly made the IT chappie who has been so rotten to me feel guilty today though! Let's hope stuff gets resolved on the back of it! But bus drivers who chuck me off buses for no apparent reason (my pre-pay card didnt appear to work although it had plenty of money on it) into the snow (we are still having lots of snow here- even in central London at the moment!) make me cry too. Hopefully the weekend will be tear- free!
Yesterday I had a mid-wife appointment. All seems fine. She says it is growing nicely- will apparently be a nice sized baby although not too big! and i heard the heartbeat again which is truly amazing. It is just wonderful. Simon hasnt heard it yet but will definitely be there for the next appointment despite them being fairly routine just to hear how magical it is. I have to make a reasonably tough decision though because my blood group is rhesus negative. They have decided to start offering injections to all pregnant women at 28 and 34 weeks but it is essentially a blood product from someone else in case this baby is positive (likely to be as Simon is) and its blood comes into contact with mine for whatever reason- this would make me likely to reject the next baby shouldi get pregnant again as i wouldh ave built up antibodies against it. The thing is it seems quite risky to have someone else's blood injected into me when pregnant so i dont think i am going to do it. i'll have the one after i've given birth and they have established that the baby is definitely positive. But of course since it is now being nationally recommended you are kind of out there on your own if you decide not to have the injections. ahhh. why is nothign simple? i only want the best for my baby- think i would rather wait til the baby isnt inside me any more as then it is only me that is being put at risk by having someone else's blood put inside of me.
Anyway we are off to chester for a week after today so v unlikely to blog. I will try to if i can but no promises at all.
I lost my two ebay auctions by the way! someone pipped me to the post in literally the last minute on both of them- seems i have a long way to go to become a proficient ebayer!
weather and day. I have been soaked to the bone twice and that isnt any fun! (annoying umbrella chose today to break on me!). And I am in competition with someone for the pushchair. Grrr. Having trouble controlling those hormones and the desire to cry every time something goes a bit wrong! (and work is going a bit wrong today!). Contrast to a great day yesterday where I beat Simon at chess for the first time ever! We have our date night once a week (hope to be able to continue it after baby is born but who knows!) where we dont answer phone or do chores but just have time for each other. Sometimes we go out, sometimes we stay in. Yesterday we had a nice meal and played chess together. Very civilised! And by far always the best night of the week! Today I am toying between heading the MET severe weather warning for my area and going home or going out to see my friend whose baby is due 24 March and so I am v unlikely to get to see in her childless state ever again if i fail to go! What a dilemma! Thanks for the tip Vic about getting baby stuff slowly- I think that is tip top advice. Break it all up into bite size chunks. Seems very sensible to me!
My goodness, hasnt it been a long time since I posted. Apologies. I had no idea. Hope you are all OK out there!
Celebrated a v good friend's 30th at the weekend- was actually quite nice as lots of people were a bit melancholy about their own age and told me how jealous they were that i had a baby on the way. It made me realise that I am v content with my stage in life and everything is going (right now) precisely as I would have wanted it to. I guess none of us know what is around the corner but being content right now is not a bad place to be.
My cunning 'opening the coat on the tube so people can see my tummy' strategy has worked on two consecutive occasions now so maybe people arent as bad in London as I thought they were!
This week is a busy one at work- made all the busier by the fact that it is my last week before a week's holiday! We are off to stay at Simon's uncle's place in Chester which I am v much looking forward to....
Am in an auction on ebay for a new pushchair (we went around Mothercare at the weekend and identified the one we want - decided looking at everythign else was too confusing!). It is amazing how nervous and obsessive one can be when engaging in one of those things! It is brand new and appears to be a real bargain so i am confused we wont be the only bidder for much longer! Thanks for the tips Lisa- we are going for a Maclaren! And not a massive travel system thing but a fairly simple stroller thing that does take baby from birth but also is something we might use as time goes on too!
